ORMAN ESIN: A CASE OF PROMOTION ON THE ALTAR OF SERVICE.

When the long awaited list of Commissioners was released last Friday, I drove to the residence of Hon. Orman Esin to felicitate him. There, I met many Oro people and Akwa Ibomites who came to share in the joy of his elevation.

For obvious reasons, I deliberately decided to wait till the assignment of portfolios before publicly congratulating him.In fact, I didn't want to put the cart before the horse.

Now, this is Hon. Orman Esin, the Hon. Commissioner for Transport & Petroleum Resources. There's no doubt that the pairing of these two ministries makes this former Chairman of Oron Local Government Council, the Fashola of the Udom administration. While Babatunde Fashola rose from being a Governor to being assigned three ministries to run as Minister at the national level, Hon. Orman Esin moved from serving as Local Government Chairman into being assigned two ministries in one to run as Commissioner at the State level.

For me, such appointments are votes of confidence by the Chief Executives on the appointees. With this appointment, it's clear that the Governor believes in the capabilities of Hon. Orman Esin.Make no mistake, the Commissioner for Transport and Petroleum Resources will be very busy.Of course, not all Ministries have so much to handle.

Managing our motor parks, drivers, tricycles and mini buses which ply the roads of Uyo capital city, preventing commuters from causing traffic gridlock and ensuring that fuel flows in our filling stations cannot be a lazy man's job.I'm yet to confirm if the Governor has taken the role of interfacing with upstream petroleum operators from the Ministry of Environment to that of Petroleum. There's every likelihood that it's the case.

Orman Esin's records as Chairman, Oron Local Government Council shows that he can effectively handle our sensitive and volatile transport and petroleum sectors. As Chairman, Oron Local Government Council, he was said to have successfully resolved a 10 year old communal dispute between two communities in the area.

Prior to his election as Executive Chairman, Oron Local Government Chairman, his domain was reportedly prone to frequent confraternal clashes which used to result in loss of lives. But he was able to maintain the peace and keep the situation under control throughout his tenure.

His friendly disposition and amiable nature will definitely help to improve the relationship between tricycle drivers and government.

I personally rejoice over this appointment because Orman Esin loves Oro and Akwa Ibom State.Ever since he started identifying with Oron Union, his impact has been felt.He was still basking in the euphoria of the success of the Dinner/Award Night which he greatly helped to organise for Uyo Branch when the announcement came.

The event held in the night of 24th November while the list of Commissioners was made public in the early hours of 25th November. The appointment literally met him serving and identifying with his people. That's why the leadership of Oron Union and the people of Oro Nation are happy with his appointment.

He attends Oron Union meetings and contributes generously during discussions. I can confidently say that Orman Esin is our own.

On the original list sent by the Governor to the House of Assembly, Hon. Orman Esin was listed as number nine(9). Someone observed on the day it was published that the tall, handsome, dark complexioned politician would play the pivotal role of a striker in the new team assembled by Governor Udom Emmanuel.

Being assigned a revenue generating and problems solving ministry seems a confirmation of that seeming prediction.

Congratulations! Akwa Ibom's Minister of Transport & Petroleum. We expect alot of innovations in the management of the affairs of the ministry because you are an innovative, creative, imaginative and intelligent administrator.

It's time for work. It's time to make a difference again.

Omen Bassey.
