The lawmakers' spouses are members of the  Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Legislator's Wives Association, LEWA.

Donating the  items  to the beneficiaries at the House of Assembly complex  during the end-of-year thanksgiving service/ celebration,  President of LEWA, Dr. Mrs. Uduak Onofiok  Luke  said the lawmaker’s wives decided to identify with the less privileged  in this yuletide season as their own way of giving back to the society, and as a mark of appreciation to God for his bountiful mercies and love towards their familitrs
She used the opportunity to appreciate God for sustaining the lives of their husband as well as LEWA members, and particularly commended the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke for his supporting role to LEWA.

In his remarks, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke who handed the items to beneficiaries,  thanked  LEWA for deeming it necessary to give hope to the widows and orphans, noting that by their action, they have brought hope to the down trodden.
“What we have seen today is from the individual pocket of LEWA members. it is from the little savings they have been keeping from the pocket  money their husbands give them. I must say I’m proud of our women".
"What we are doing today is not publicity stunt. If we don’t allow ourselves to be used to change the story of other people in every way that we can, then we would have failed in our calling”.

The Speaker promised to sponsor the secondary education of a ten year old orphan from Idua Eket by name, Elisha Akpan Daniel who is currently in primary Six.
Elisha who was among the beneficiaries of the Christmas largesse by LEWA was spotted by the Speaker while he was presenting the items to beneficiaries. He is a pupil at Holy Child Primary School, Idua -Eket.

Delivering an exhortation at the event, Rev. Angela Ashong of God’s Ambassadors Outreach, described thanksgiving as a conscious act carried out by a grateful heart.

She said any person whom God has blessed owes Him a responsibility of impacting lives. Drawing her text from Psalm 100, the cleric lauded the lawmaker’s wives for reaching out to the needy through their platform, and prayed God to reward their effort.

The thanksgiving service featured, praise and worship session, as well  prayer of intercession. Speaker, Barr. Luke, House Leader, Sir. Udo Kierian Akpan and wife of the Chief Whip, Mrs. Helen Emmanuel led in intercessory prayers for the nation, leaders,  state, and members of the House.
