A Brief History of the Award Winning Project: Education For Sustainable Development
At the inaugural event of the Global Shaper Community Hub Uyo Hub In October 2015, Mmanti Umoh the Founding curator shared the vision of The World Economic Forum ‘Improving the State of The World’ and the opportunities it would afford in shaping the local community.
At the inaugural event at the Silver Lounge, Mmanti Umoh said “Our hunger for better education in this state should never stop. It is the foundation of what will make Akwa Ibom great and the key ingredient for global competition. Education in Akwa Ibom needs to become better to meet the demands of the global marketplace.
We must support our government schools to offer the opportunity to foster innovative environments that allow teachers and students to interact in ways that prepare them for jobs and skills that will be relevant in the future.” as she unveiled the 1st Project of the Hub which she called “Education for Sustainable Development” #E4SD Mentoring and Reading Challenge.
An initiative in fulfilment of the ‘Sustainable Development Goal 4 QUALITY EDUCATION’ to give 675,000 Student’s Books, set-up 150 Schools Libraries and pair 13,500 Role Models for mentoring in order overhaul the academic and attitudinal achievements in the educational sector of Akwa Ibom.
An initiative in fulfilment of the ‘Sustainable Development Goal 4 QUALITY EDUCATION’ to give 675,000 Student’s Books, set-up 150 Schools Libraries and pair 13,500 Role Models for mentoring in order overhaul the academic and attitudinal achievements in the educational sector of Akwa Ibom.
Focused on enabling Akwa Ibom students to pursue their right to education by eliminating the barriers they faced and ensuring that activities and programs are innovative, evidence-based and sustainable. The #E4SD project attracted key players in governance, CEOs amongst thought leaders and mentors to sign up as role models on the #iMENTOR Platform. In its 1st Phase, the shapers project reached over 24,000 students.
The Uyo Hub have also done projects like; #IgniteASmile at Christmas, Feeding 156 Families in 3 remote villages in Ekpri Nsukara, Anua, Idu Uruan Communities achieving Global Goal 2 ‘End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture’.

Local Cancer Awareness and the Akwa Ibom Economic Summit the 1st of its kind dialogue between policy makers and stakeholders for a forward looking review for Akwa Ibom state which was well organised and attended. At the Summit the incoming curator for the Uyo Hub was announced as well as the Deputy Curator.
