***Task workers to be efficient
The newly appointed Commissioner for Housing and Special Duties in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Akan Okon, has lauded Governor Udom Emmanuel over the prompt payment of salaries and his keen interest in the plight of workers in the State.
Mr. Okon gave the commendation today, at a Special Fellowship/Inaugural Meeting of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Renewal, held at the Ministry's Conference Hall, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Uyo, to welcome the new Commissioner.
Addressing Staff of the Ministry, Mr. Okon said Governor Emmanuel came at critical time, when the State needed a
prudent resource manager, due to the current economic crisis in the country.
He described the workers as "foot soldiers of Governor Udom Emmanuel", who will, through their hard work and commitment, help interpret the Governor's dream in providing affordable houses to the people of Akwa Ibom State and further appealed for a cordial relationship among themselves, in the discharge of their duties.
The new Commissioner tasked staff to be efficient in their duty and work toward the achievement of the Governor's industrialisation and job creation policy for the State and promised an open communication system in the Ministry, maintaining that such will help the workers excel in their various offices.
"I want to thank God for giving us a Governor at this critical point in time. As you know, there are some states that cannot pay salaries, even after collecting money from the Federal Government for that purpose. But Governor Udom Emmanuel is doing well in terms of payment of salaries.
"I am very open to discussion, as far as it is not blackmail. If you have any problem, ask questions, don't work under assumption. I am available to all of you, so feel free to approach me, anytime you have a problem.
"I want to assure you that together, we will surmount all the challenges that we have. So let's work together and interpret the vision of the Governor for Akwa Ibom State", Mr. Okon said.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Valarie Obot, while welcoming the new Commissioner, expressed excitement over Mr. Akan Okon's deployment to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Renewal, and described him as a "Complete Politician."
Mrs. Obot who also applauded Governor, "for appointing a man who will help interpret his (the Governor's) dreams in the area of Housing" and, noted that Mr. Okon is a dyed-in-the-wool professional, with strong managerial skills of men and resources."
"Our Commissioner, we had long waited for you and we are happy that God has brought you here. From our interactions with you, we know that things will change for the better in this Ministry", she added.
Earlier in his exhortation, the Head, Urban Renewal, Mr. Edet Asuquo Edet Ibout had preached on the theme "A Greatful Heart", drawn from Psams 107:1-9 and harped on thanksgiving as need for for spiritual and physical growth.
Others who also spoke at the meeting, included the Chairman, Joint Action Committee on Trade Union Matters, Comrade Joseph John and the Managing Director, APICO Investment Limited, Arch. Macaulay Udoka.
Present at the meeting which featured Special prayers for the Ministry, the new Commissioner, Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria, were the Head, Engineering Services , Mr. John Itiat, that of Administration, Mr Christopher Akpan, and Head, Planning and Statistics, Mr. Friday Inyang, including Senior and Junior Staff of the Ministry.
