The Chairman, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Appropriation and Finance, Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh has re-affirmed  the readiness of the legislature in ensuring that the industrialization agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel sails smoothly in state.
This assurance came recently even as the Esit-Eket/Ibeno State constituency representative is worried at the inability of the state government's investment co-ordinating agency, Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation, AKICORP,  appears to be battling with under funding,  and alleged duplication of it's functions by the Ministry of Investment, Commerce, Trade  and Industries, as well as the Technical Committee on Foreign Direct Investment.

While defending the 2016 budget of the corporation at the House of Assembly complex,  Chairman of Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation, AKICORP, Dr. Elijah Akpan accompanied by other principal staff, expressed regret at the inability of the corporation to access funds to enable it carry out  it's core mandate as enlisted in the law establishing it.
He used the opportunity to brief the committee on how the corporation has expended funds so far accessed by it under the 2016 fiscal estimate. Dr. Akpan disclosed that several investors from across the world have been approaching AKICORP indicating interest in the siting of industries in the state, but said there were challenges hampering their smooth operation,  and sought the prompt intervention of the House of Assembly.

Reacting, Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh, observed that there was urgent need to review the law establishing the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation, and assured of the preparedness of the House of Assembly to look into the matter.
The Committee Chairman promised to discuss the matter with the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke.

Scrutinising the documents  presented by the AKICORP team to the committee, Dr. Usoro Akpanusoh said there cannot be a super ministry and a super commissioner, maintaining that his committee is poised in ensuring that every observed  bottle neck that is capable of hampering the smooth operation of the state investment corporation is removed.
