ONOFIOK LUKE CHARGES POLITICAL PARTIES, BECOMES IPAC PATRON

Opposition Political parties in Akwa Ibom state have been urged to see themselves as partners in progress in the development of the state, rather than being antagonistic to government.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke gave the charge, Tuesday when he played host to the leadership of Inter-party Advisory Council, IPAC, Akwa Ibom State chapter at the House of Assembly complex.

He enjoined the political parties to rather adopt constructive criticism in their engagement with a view to ensuring that government lives up to its campaign promises.

The Speaker thanked Akwa Ibom state chapter of IPAC for the support they have given to the PDP led government under the leadership of Governor Udom Emmanuel, and enjoined them not to relent in their support.

“Let me thank you for realizing that elections have long gone, and that it is time for governance. Thank you for accepting to be an alternative party by constructively engaging government to ensure that it lives up to its promises.
While urging Nigerians, irrespective of political party affiliation, to support President Muhammad Buhari to succeed, he urged the President to fulfill his campaign promises.

“Let me again use this opportunity to call on the federal government to fulfill the campaign promises they made to Nigerians. They promised to provide free feeding to school children, they promised to reduce pump price of petrol, they promised to make one naira equal to the dollar, today we are in recession. Hunger does not know political parties”.

In his address, the Chairman of IPAC, Engr. Martins Inyang, who is of the Democratic People’s Party, DPP, said the delegation was in the Assembly complex to identify with the leadership and members of the 6th Assembly and to seek collaboration with the legislature for the greater good of the state.

He commended the Speaker for the synergy existing between the legislature and the executive arm, and particularly praised the lawmakers for rising in support of physically challenged persons in the state.

Highpoint of the visit was the decoration of Mr. Speaker as Patron of the council by the Chairman of IPAC who was assisted by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Inter-Party Affairs, Hon. Lawrence Udoh.

Members of the House who were present at courtesy call include, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Felicia Bassey, Ikono State Constituency representative, Rt. Hon. Victor Udofia, as well as the representative of Ibesikpo Asutan State Constituency, Hon. Aniekan Uko.
On the IPAC delegation were, Prince Ubong Eberefiak, of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, Blessing Asuquo, (ADC) William Ikpe, State PPA Chairman. Others are,  Inemesit  Akpan, Dr. Effiong Ekaebe, Mr. Utip Etiebet and Ekomobong Akpan, among others.
