NO ETHNIC GROUP CAN GO IT ALONE----Onofiok Luke.

The Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke has admonished all the ethnic groups making Akwa Ibom State to work together in order to make the State great.The Speaker said this on Thursday night while speaking as Special Guest of Honour at a Dinner/Award Night & Fund Launch organised by Oron Union, Uyo Branch at R&R Event Centre, Uyo.

He urged Oro leaders to constructively engage government for the benefit of their people. He appealed to them to let go the past as Governor Udom Emmanuel works to give all sections of the State a sense of belonging.

He added that God did not make a mistake by bringing together the different ethnic groups that constitute Akwa Ibom State.He described himself as a true friend of Oro Nation.

Earlier in his welcome speech, the President, Oron Union, Uyo Branch, Dr. Barr. Asuquo Anwana thanked the Speaker for identifying with Oro people. He also acknowledged the Chairman of the occasion, Barr Asuquo Asuquo Okpo, the President General of Oron Union, Chief Dr. E.E.B. Edunam and other dignitaries for honouring the event with their presence.

He added that the event was organized to honour a few persons who have distinguished themselves in service to humanity as well as raise funds for the building of Oro House in Uyo.

In his opening remarks, Chairman of the occasion, Barr. Asuquo Asuquo Okpo commended Oron Union, Uyo Branch for the initiative. He appealed to prominent Oro sons and daughters to support the Union in the interest of the present and future generations of Oro.He stated that while efforts are made to build a physical house for Oro, the house of brotherhood and shared heritage should not be allowed to collapse.

While presenting an award of excellence to the Speaker, the President General of Union,Chief Dr. E. E.B. Edunam described him as a true friend of Oro Nation. He said the award was given in recognition of his detribalized disposition, bridge building efforts across ethnic divides and dexterity in the handling of legislative business as Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

Others who were honoured were -former Minister of Lands and Urban Development, Dr(Mrs) Akon Eyakenyi, General Manager, Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, Mr Efiong Afiakurue, Managing Director, Topcare Pharmacy, Obongawan Dora Ebong, renowned Estate Surveyor and Valuer, Mr John Isangedighi, former Director of Lands, Mrs Blessing Nuwak, American based Pharmacist, Dr. Anwana Ntofon, former Secretary to the State Government, Chief Okokon Antigha, retired Permanent Secretary, Elder Essang Nseabasi, among others.

The event was attended by numerous personalities, among them Former Deputy Speaker and Member Representing Oron/Udung Uko State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Effiong Bassey, Member Representing Urueoffong/Oruko State Constituency, Hon. Asuquo Archibong , University Don, Prof. Eka Uwe,Transition Chairman, Uyo Local Government Area, former Executive Chairman,Oron Local Government Council and Commissioner Designate, Hon. Orman Esin, Special Assistants to the Governor on Project Monitoring, Hon. Antigha Isong and Barr. Bassey Willie.
