Just after 9 months of being in-charge of Ituen Academy Football Club of Itu, Coach Friday Ekpo has left he club.
Coach Ekpo who is an Ex-International said the decision to leave the club was because Prince Idongesit Ituen was owing him salaries and arrears. He however wished the club well in its future endeavours.
Ituen Academy Football club of Itu is owned by the member representing Itu State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Honorable Idongesit Ituen.
Below is the message from Coach Friday Ekpo:
“I greet in jesus name Amen.I no longer work with Ituen Academy fc on a PERSONAL REASON.I want Hon ldongesit Ituen, to pay me all my outstanding money.I started in March 2016 wt d team, played State fa cup, State league & the Legislative cup & on June 12, the team was unveiled wt a football match against Calabar Rovers @the nest of Champion. I thank d management, family, players & fans for their support during my time with the team.I wish them d best, God bless coach Friday Ekpo”
Reacting Pastor Ekomobong Akpan of All Glorious Ministry, Aka Etinan road Uyo said a man who does not pay salary of his servants is a cursed man from God. Quoting from Jeremiah 22:13 ” Woe to him who builds his house without righteousness And his upper rooms without justice, Who uses his neighbor’s services without pay And does not give him his wages,”
” ‘You shall not oppress your neighbor, nor rob him The wages of a hired man are not to remain with you all night until morning.” Leviticus 19:13
He further advised the owner of Ituen Academy Football Club to pay his Servant who builts the football club for nine (9) months or face the curse of the Lord.
Barrister (Mrs) Ifiok Ekanem of Prince and Princess Chambers said Coach Friday Ekpo should approach National Industrial Court if after one (1) month the management of the team fails to pay his outstanding money. Barrister Ifiok cited Part one (1) section fifteen (15) of the Labour Act, Chapter 198 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1990 which states that “Wages shall become due and payable at the end of each period for which the contract is expressed to subsist, that is to say, daily, weekly or at such other period as may be agreed upon:
Provided that, where the period is more than one month, the wages shall become due and payable at intervals not exceeding one month.”
The learned advised the management of the team to pay the outstanding amount of salaries they Coach Friday or face unpleasant consequences which may be as a result of the court proceedings.
Investigations revealed that Prince Idongesit Ituen, member representing Itu state constituency is in the habit of owing those who provide services for him or his football academy. Our source close to Idongesit Ituen, who does not want his name on print said “My Oga likes to owe, he pays when you least expected”
Effort to reach Prince Idongesit Ituen proved abortive as he did not answer his calls.
