The immediate past executive members of the People's Democratic Party, PDP yesterday consolidated together for unity, reaffirming their stand on the choice of Deacon Udom Emmanuel as Governor of Akwa Ibom State during the last general elections in the state.
Addressing group of Journalists immediately after the meeting, the facilitator, Mr. Inibehe Umah said the meeting which was attended by the immediate past state exco members and chapter chairmen of the party was to encourage the Governor on his good works which according to them have made them proud and stand him out as one of the best Governor in the country.
Umah, who is currently serving as the Special Assistant to the Governor on Projects noted that as people who choosed and elected the Governor, that they have not meet for a long time since after the election. He added that the aim of their coming together was to encourage and reaffirmed their support to the Governor as they were grateful and impress by his excellent performance since assumption of office.
The former PDP State Youth Leader asserted that apart from reaffirming their support to the Governor, that as people who are currently in government and was appointed from that platform, there was need to assemble and sensitize his colleagues on the programmes and workings of government, saying that by so doing they would be involved and understand the activities of government.
"of course, we have seen what the Governor is doing.
His ability to pay salary as at when due even with the little resources; his numerous projects and empowerment packages to the people of the state despite the fact that there are other state that are unable to pay salary, initiate projects and other things. But our Governor, on daily bases is empowering the women, youths of the state; construct roads and embarked on other developmental projects. The Governor is doing well more than other governors in the country."
"We came to reaffirm that actually we took a right decision, that if we had made a mistake of not bringing a financial manager in the likes of Governor Udom Emmanuel at a time like this were the country is witnessing economic downfall, it would have been a very big mistake. Today, we came together to reaffirmed that the decision we took right from the time of primaries to the general election period was a right decision for the State. This was our first inaugural meeting to bring our former Exco members together, but in our programmes, we are moving to the next level of making sure all the former Ward Chairmen and chapter exco in the entire state consolidated again and give the governor the necessary support he needed".
On the unity of the Party, the Governor's Aide stressed that as leaders of the party, they are currently brainstorming on strategies to contribute and ensure the existence of peace and unity which according to him is Paramount both at the National, state and chapter level.
He explained that current leaders at different levels are meeting to make sure that they consolidate on the unity of the party, assuring that they, as former exco are praying for their leaders to successfully unite the aggrieved members of the party, calling on those bringing destruction into the party to desist from such act.
"This is a great party. PDP came to stay in Nigeria and it was so good for this country".
While advising the people of the state to cooperate and support the Governor Udom Emmanuel, he called on people living in communities were projects are sited to allow contractors to work on the cite peacefully and not to distract or create unnecessary issues.
"The Governor has good intentions for Akwa Ibom people and that was the reason we elected him. The decision we took right from primaries to general election was right because 'Udom is right'.
However, during the meeting which took place in Umah's resident at Shelter Afric, Uyo, the forum of former PDP Exco members passed vote of confidence on the Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel and the present leadership of the PDP led by Obong Paul Ekpo, expressing confident on their sterling leadership qualities within their short stays in office.
