Akwa Ibom state scored yet another feat, wednesday evening in the nation's capital, Abuja during the 2016 e-Nigeria Expo and conference where it was presented with an award of excellence by the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, Abuja for emerging top as the state with the best web presence at the e-Nigeria 2016 Dinner & e-Governance Award.
The state was presented with the award at the International Conference Centre, Abuja at a colourful ceremony which had in attendance, Vice president Yemi Osinbajo and stakeholders in the ICT industry from within and outside the country. Declaring the conference open, VP Osinbajo stated the commitment of the federal government to the sustenance of the achievements recorded in ICT development.
NITDA-Nihilent e-Governance award aims at recognizing e-Governance Initiatives in the country. Akwa Ibom state was nominated for the award following her ability to develop a functional web portal that focuses on user conveniences, awareness, continuity and facilitating a user feedback mechanism for continuous improvement.
By this award, Akwa Ibom state was able to beat other 36 states including Abuja to take the lead in the best web presence category in the country.
The Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on ICT, Engr. Solomon Eyo who represented the state at the conference, received the award on behalf of the governor.
The event which has as it's theme "Leveraging on IT Innovation for Economic Diversification' climaxed with with a summit which focused on discussions bordering on several areas of interest in the ICT world including, tech start-ups, cyber security, local content and e-government.
Others include, NITDA-Nihilent e-Governance awards.
Renowned IT experts who served as resource persons during the IT conference include, founder Zinox Technologies, Leo Stan Ekeh, founder CWG, President, Austin. Okere, and President, Association of Telecomms Companies of Nigeria, ATCON, Olusola .
Others are, Mr. Tele Okeremi, CEO,Precise Financial Systems, Juliet Ehimunen, Google Nigeria country Manager, Dipo Faulkner, Country General Manager, IBM
Nigeria, Michelle Messina, and Eric Osiakwan among others.
Meanwhile, the Personal aide to the Governor Udom Emmanuel on ICT, Engr. Solomon has congratulated the governor and the people of Akwa Ibom for the award.
Reacting, Engr. Solomon said the state was able to record such an enviable achievement due to the high premium the government of the day places on ICT.
