I still remember how Sen. Ita Enang spuriously accused His Excellency Gov. Udom Emmanuel during the winding part of 2015 of initiating Akwa Ibom people into cults in the name of power sector training and how given the kind nature of the governor all efforts by concerned citizens of the state to institute private prosecution of the legendary "Udo Mfon Iso" gone rogue senator cum presidential aide were disapproved.
It did not take long thereafter before the public saw the true mischief in the accusation. Now, the same card of cult sponsorship has been played again.
This time the governor is accused of funding cultism by giving monthly stipends to youths known as Dakkada Ambassadors in an article titled "Udom Spends N4.7b Servicing Cult Groups under Dakkada Campaign."
Incidentally, this is coming from the same quarters that have hitherto ignorantly accused the governor of not empowering the masses. Having seen how false their claims were they are now criminalizing the governor's empowerment policy in a failed attempt to discredit the deacon's good deeds out of frustration.
While, the writer of the article ordinarily is expected to know better as a journalist and an educated fellow not to publish such seditious lies against his own state it is however not surprising knowing that apples do not fall far from the tree seeing that the young man may not have made the publication out of jealousy from not being one of the Dakkada Ambassadors nor from frustration working as one of the few media handlers of his state house member Rt. Hon. Aniekan Uko aka "IBORO AKAM" without much gains as some commentators have alleged. In truth however, he is actually one of the newest recruits of our very own "Rogue Udo Mfon Iso" and presidential aide, Sen. Ita Enang and Ita Awak to attack the governor.
Albeit, if there are 15,861 young people engaged as Dakkada Ambassadors by the state government to enlighten the masses on the benefits of governance and need to partner with the government in building a greater Akwa Ibom state what then could be wrong with such initiative except for the bad faith from the fact that the person faulting it is not one of the ambassadors? Simply bad faith and nothing further pretentious can best describe such shenanigans.
Methinks also that if the so called 15, 861 Dakkada Ambassadors whom the writer has libeled as cultists decide to institute legal actions jointly or severally against him 15, 000 years of labour will not be enough to off set his liability.
The logic is simple, referring to these good people working with the state government to build a greater Akwa Ibom state as cultist is a calculated attempt incite the same masses they are supposed to enlighten against them, a politically orchestrated smear to reduce their good esteem before the public.
The publication itself is also an attempt to pitch the public against the governor by painting him as a very insensitive leader who squanders state funds promoting cultism which itself is a threat to the masses. What informed and learned mind would do this to his own people in the name of writing a political article? Such community disservice!
Meanwhile this is the very governor who has the commendable record of being virtually the only governor across the nation to pay salaries up to date, a governor that other state governors admire for his financial managerial ingenuity in these days of perilously lean resources, a governor that practices political inclusiveness to the letter by enthroning internal democracy in the party and state, a governor that has empowered thousands of Akwa Ibom people through several empowerment schemes and programmes.
Instead of encouraging the good man some people are busy hypocritically mudslinging themselves pretending to be oblivious of the fact that Nigerians are yet to see the "change" they were promised by the All Progressives Congress. But then, there is no saying what political frustration and desperation can turn some people into.
Of course the scripture had prophesied that someone would betray the son of man but it was rather the choice of Judas to be the one through his greed. Similarly, in this Akwa Ibom project our judases abound and posterity will certainly make history of our roles in the course of time. Hence, Akwa Ibom masses beware!
