ECONOMIC CHALLENGES: GOVERNOR EMMANUEL AGAIN ASSURES UNILAG ALUMNI


Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state says that he is committed to putting up structures that will help his people out of the current economic meltdown, insisting that actions rather than propaganda and rhetoric were expected of leaders in the country.
The governor stated this when members of the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the University of Lagos Alumni Association led by their President, Senator Effiong Dickson Bob paid him a visit in his office.
He acknowledged that despite the current hardship, he has been focused in making moves that will better the lot for the people of his state because “the economy will not respond to propaganda and tears, it can only respond to the right actions which we as leaders owe our people.”
He commended the alumni members for their efforts in making the state branch of the association very vibrant, and promised the alumni members that he would do everything in his power to protect the good name of their alma mater.
He lauded the association on its resolve to establish a resource and research center in the state and  promised them a certificate of occupancy for a plot of land for the project before the end of the month.
The governor who was proud of the heights attained by several alumni of the institution thanked them for their overwhelming support to his administration and also condoled with their president, Senator Effiong Bob on the demise of his mother at the ripe age of 90.
Earlier, the State Chapter President Senator Bob had commended the governor for his achievements so far despite the recession in the country, maintaining that as an ambassador of UNILAG, they could not have expected less from him.
The alumni were of the belief that his records will open doors for more alumni members to be given prominent responsibilities in the country, and requested for his assistance through the provision of land to enable them construct an international conference and research center in the state.
“We are very solidly behind you and your administration. Most importantly, the peace in the state under your watch is what anyone can ask for, and without it, no one can achieve anything,” Bob said.
In the delegation of the UNILAG Alumni included wife of  a former governor of the state, Obonganwan Imo Isemin, the state Chief Judge Stephen Okon, his predecessor, Mrs Idongesit Ntem Isua, Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Prof Enefiok Essien, Dr. Emmanuel Ukpong,as well as several former commissioners and permanent secretaries in the state among others.
