Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has acknowledged the tremendous contributions of the late Chief Etim Inyang, to the growth of the Nigeria Police Force, and Akwa Ibom State. This was the submission of lawmakers at Tuesday plenary while paying their last respect to the departed former Inspector General of Police who will be laid to rest this weekend at his country home, Ewang in Mbo local government area.
The House in a resolution, condoled with the family of the late Etim Inyang, Governor Udom Emmanuel, the Inspector General of Police and the police family, Oro nation and Mbo local government area over the demise of their son.
This was sequel to a matter of information brought before the House by the lawmaker representing Mbo State Constituency, Hon. Samuel Ufuo, who drew the attention of his colleagues to the death of a worthy son of his constituency, Late Chief Etim Inyang.
Briefing the House on the matter, Hon Ufuo said “We have lost a distinguished son of this state who offered himself for service to his fatherland; Chief Etim Inyang who rose in the Nigeria Police Force from constable to Inspector General”.
“He instituted reforms in the Nigeria Police Force. He will be buried on Saturday in his home town, Ewang, Mbo.”
The lawmaker invited his colleagues to join him in giving the last respect to the departed.
In his tribute, Speaker, Rt. Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke said “We have on record the tremendous contributions to the growth of the Nigeria Police Force by the great Etim Inyang. This is a loss to Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force and Akwa Ibom State”.
“We will do what we can to in our powers to support His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel, Oro nation and Etim Inyang family to give the Late sage a befitting burial”.
