FRIENDS OF UDOM EMMANUEL ON FACEBOOK (FOUE).
By Micheal Joseph Okon.
Now,I am not intending to be nice with the 5000 unfortunate would have been teachers and I won't pretend to be cool on their vents, tactics and antics. Call me a fanatic and sycophant when I'm through but first listen to my argument and opinion.
At first they had my sympathy when the issue of their non assignment to schools came up and I thought with time they would be deployed to needed citadels of primary demand. Some of them contacted me and I suggested they organise themselves and approach the board to know for certainty the reason behind their being kept in limbo for that long, I hope they did. Surprisingly, the next action was an open show of hypocritical prayer outreach at Ibom Plaza as if God hears prayers faster at Ibom plaza than in the closet of a church.
To me that action was insulting and a mockery to the leadership of this state. Shortly after that the could have been 5000 took to the street protesting with placards even to the abode of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
Look, even if their appointments were regular and I was their employer,I would NEVER employ such workers with a knife to my throat having seen such display of trepidation before officially deploying them. As an employer of labour,I would have closed the gate against them and face the law squarely with them. You don't display such picketing capability and not put fear in an employer.
Apart from the irregularities noticed in their employment proceedings which warranted the cancellation of the exercise, their acts of misdemeanor disqualify them as would be Teachers. They have already shown how capable they could be in protest and strikes once empowered into public service,If I were a Governor,I would have found reason to flush out such unfortunate bad eggs as Teachers.
Some of them have dared to comment on this platform that Governor Udom Emmanuel is fighting his predecessor by cancelling what he came to meet, little do they understand the way leadership works. His Excellency Senator Godswill Akpabio,in his wisdom saw the irregularities surrounding the fraudulent employment and would have cancelled it himself but for time as his tenure was drawing to a close while facing the election he left the unfortunate situation to a trusted hand.
Mr Udom Emmanuel in his large heart allowed the commission copious time to seek possible remedy to the fraud ridden exercise and when reasonable respite could not be reached, the exercise had to be cancelled with an open door of opportunity yet provided for the qualified ones to return with their appointment letters and subject themselves for screening because whether sooner or latter new teachers must be employed to teach our children.
Governor Udom Emmanuel is teacher friendly, don't forget he is a successful son of parents who were both reputable teachers and would not spite the foundation of his greatness. But allowing sentiments to becloud reason having noticed the scam perpetuated in smuggling unqualified acclaimed teachers without basic prerequisites as Teachers into our Education system would have been a greater offence to our Children.
The Ibibio proverb has it that doing the RIGHT thing is no waste of time, whosoever was destined to be a life changing teacher will surely find his or her way into the classroom but the unqualified should try other ventures because one cannot give what he does not have.
One facebook childish lawyer has threatened to proceed to the Industrial court to challenge the state government, I advice him not to delay a second and in doing so he should start a business and employ the unqualified after discovering that his secretary wrongly issued appointment letters under fraudulent conditions.
Teachers who fight and beg to be employed are not qualified to be employed for they have proven beyond reasonable doubts that they were not well schooled to be independent, it shows that they shall teach our children to learn only to come stampeding the government of their time for employment. This is not the season and time to train more job seekers rather than Job creators.
5000 poorly prepared teachers seeking to be teachers of the next generation, is a disaster on rampage. We applaud the cancellation of the exercise and encourage only proven practical teachers to be employed to instil sense of greatness and superiority in our children.
