...Lends support beyond 2019

The traditional rulers of Oro Nation have passed a vote of confidence on the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, following his good governance that has affected the area positively, and unanimously rose to support him beyond 2019.

The royal fathers reached the resolution after the Hon. Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Victor Antai took time to reel out the  projects executed by  the Governor  within the last 17 months of his administration, together with the ones just awarded, which, he said, the contractors would soon be mobilized to move to sites.

Moving a motion to pass the vote of confidence on the Governor, the Paramount Ruler of Oron Local Government Area, HRM Offong Odiong Akan said the Governor has done a lot for the people and deserved to be encouraged to serve beyond 2019.

The motion was duly seconded by royal fathers from four other local government areas of Oro Nation including the Clan Head of Idua, Urue Offong/Oruko, HRH Offong E. N. Ekeng; the Clan Head of Afaha Okpo in Udung Uko, HRH Bassey Etim Edet; a Clan Head in Okobo, HRH Raymond Esuk and Chief Okon Abang of Mbo Local Government Area.

They acknowledged the commendable performance of Governor Emmanuel, noting that a lot were still yet to be done to fully absorb the Oro people into the stream of democratic dividends it deserved.

Earlier in his speech, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Rt. Hon. Victor Etim Antai said the gathering was significant and took time to enumerate the good deeds of the Governor to the people.

The Commissioner established that apart from the Mainland Avenue, Anwana Esin, Bassey Lane and Efiat Lane that were eyesores and dead traps for the Oro people, which he said the Governor intervened and delivered within a year of his administration, he - the Governor -  had recently awarded contracts for the construction of Murtala Highway, Ibo Street, Ukpong Street in addition to the award of contract for the one from the Airport Road to Oron, which according to him, is to be handled by two companies with one ending at Okopedi and the next from there to Uya Oron Junction.

He added that from there, a 53 km dualized road has been approved by the Governor to lead to Ibaka and that contractors would be mobilized to move to sites in a matter of weeks.

Informing the gathering that the government was concluding arrangements to engage the Rock Marine Company to began a ferry service from Oron to Calabar, Victor Antai assured that Governor Udom Emmanuel was sincere in his industrialization plan for the state and that he deserved support to bring in the Ibom Deep Seaport, which he said, shall provide ample employment opportunities to the people of the area and other teaming youths of the state and the nation respectively.

The Commissioner reasoned that as a seasoned technocrat, Udom Emmanuel was an asset to Akwa Ibom and should be allowed, just as other former democratically elected governors of the state, to exhaust his full time in bringing development to the state.

In his remarks, the Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs, HRM Owong Effiong Bassey Achianga thanked the Oro chiefs for passing a vote of confidence on the Governor, noting that the industrialization plan of the Governor was yielding positive results and called for more support for him.

The monarch who maintained that his duty as the father of all fathers in the state was to cement the vote of confidence passed on the Governor, advised Oro chiefs to put their heads together to pray for him and appealed to the youths and the entire Oro people to remain focused so as to lead Oro and the rest of the state to a greater height.
