Lawmaker calls for federal government urgent intervention in NTA 35, Eket

By Evelyn Affia | The member representing Esit Eket/Ibeno state constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh has called on the federal government to urgently intervene in the situation at the Nigeria Television Authority,  channel 35, Eket in order to  revive the station for the benefit of the citizenry.

Akpanusoh made the call on Thursdays during a courtesy call on him by the management team of the station at the House of Assembly Complex.

"The Minister of Information, Mr. Lai Mohammed should assist revive the station in order to enable the station achieve the goal for which it  was set up" and pledged to use his office to assist the TV station.
The lawmaker noted that information dissemination is very essential and important in the society saying "it is a window whereby those in the rural areas will be able to follow the activities of government".

Applauding the media community, he maintained that so far he is impressed with the way media professionals discharge  duties responsibly, adding that information dissemination goes a long way in the development of the society.

He therefore called on governor Udom Emmanuel led administration and the speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Onofiok luke to see how they can put NTA 35 to use in order not to allow facilities worth billion of naira in the station be put to waste; "In bringing this station back to life, it will also provide opportunities to employ well meaning youths of Akwa Ibom State".

On his part, the manager of the station, Engr. Pius Bity appealed to the lawmaker and other well placed individuals in the state to come to the aid of the station to enable it function optimally. 

Bity noted that the station has been in existence for a period of sixteen years, regretting that it has not been functioning due to challenges facing the station.
