Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike has called on public spirited Nigerians to invest in the lives of the less privileged.
She said that such investments would enhance the standard of living of the less privileged and place them in better position to contribute to the development of the country.
She spoke on Friday in Port Harcourt during her pre-independence charity visits to two orphanages, a school for children with special needs, a Home of the Elderly and the Remand Home.
According to the Wife of the Rivers State Governor, the less privileged children and the elderly require care from other members of the society. She noted that such investments never expire as they will ever remain relevant.
She said: "We believe in them because they will be better citizens.
"We should all get involved in care for people in these circumstances whether they are in orphanages, elder people homes or in Remand homes".
She called on Nigerians to find time to visit the homes for the less privileged on a regular basis, so that they can assist the inmates.
Justice Nyesom-Wike prayed God to grant the inmates of the less privileged homes protection and good health.
Speaking at the different facilities, the wife of the Rivers State Governor extended the message of love from Governor Wike, food items and monetary gifts for the upkeep of inmates.
In his remarks, Rivers State Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Mr Damiete Herbert-Miller said that the administration of Governor Wike has taken steps to improve the living conditions of the inmates at the less privileged children homes
He commended the Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike for always taking promoting the welfare of the less privileged in the state.
In his remarks, Mr Cliff Jarrell of Global Foundation for Orphaned Children commended the Wife of the Rivers State Governor for her kindness to the home.
Also speaking, Matron of the Home of the Elderly, Reverend Sister Jane Raphael said that the efforts of the Wife of the Rivers State Governor will enhance the living conditions of the less privileged.
Agnes Opara,a 102 year old inmate of the Home of the Elderly prayed God to always bless the Wife of the Rivers State and Governor Wike for always giving priority to their welfare.
The governor’s wife was accompanied by the State Women Affairs Commissioner, Mrs Ukel Oyagiri, the Wife of the Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Governor, Mrs Cecilia Woke and prominent women in the administration of Governor Wike.
