CinemaWaka is an innovative solution that aims to push the boundaries of traditional film distribution, to minimise piracy and poverty, empower movie practitioners financially, and deliver quality cinema experience to an audience at affordable cost, one locality at time.
Problem and Solution
The existing model of film distribution in Nigeria encourages piracy. These films do not get to most of its intended audience, and this leaves a large audience underserved. The highest grossing film in Nigeria, “30 days in Atlanta” grossed only about =N=160m. If viewers paid an average of =N=1,000 to see this movie, then less than 200k Nigerians saw the movie in a nation of about 160m + people.
CinemaWaka intends to serve this underserved audience, delivering a cinema experience that moves from community to community, screening quality Nigerian movies, in a replicated cinema and fun fair environment.
