Presidency Acquires Anti-plagiarism software

The presidency is set to install a plagiarism detection software following the embarrassment caused by the verbatim copying of US president Barack Obama’s words in President Muhammadu Buhari’s ‘Change Begins With Me’ campaign speech. Daily Trust reports that while the Presidency had apologized for plagiarising Obama, which was blamed on an aide, it is now taking concrete steps to ensure that it does not happen again.

“One of the measures will be to install plagiarism detection software to check speeches before they are delivered by the president,” Daily Trust quoted an official involved in the plan as saying. 

It also reported that the planned installation of plagiarism detector was confirmed by presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu. Meanwhile, the deputy director responsible for the incident is set to be removed from the position in the Presidency.

Recall that President Buhari had released a statement to apologize after the news went viral that a whole paragraph in his “Change begins with me” speech was lifted from Obama’s 2008 victory speech. READ ALSO: Plagiarising Obama: Fani-Kayode attacks Buhari, ‘It’s a shame to Nigeria’ The statement read: “This serious oversight will be investigated thoroughly and appropriate sanction meted. “The Presidency wishes to state in the clearest possible terms that it regrets this unfortunate incident and will ensure that this does not happen again. “President Buhari urges Nigerians to look beyond this incident and focus on the message of change,” the statement added.
