The Akwa Ibom state legislature on Thursday confirmed for appointment the list of nominees forwarded to it by the state governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel. According to the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke, who headed the House’ committee of the whole which screened the nominees, the nominees were considered on grounds of experience, expertise, and integrity.
Geographical spread of the nominations by the governor was also considered by the honourable members.
According to the report of the Committee of the Whole, “the nominees are men and women of proven integrity and are selected on merit.” Portfolios assigned the nominees by the governor are also considered by the House as being “relevant to their expertise and field of endeavours.”
The House also found no adverse security report against any of the nominees. According to the lawmakers, the appointments by the governor “reflect the geographical spread of the three senatorial districts and local governments in the state, in line with the provisions of Section 14(4) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended.”
Speaker Onofiok Luke urged the nominees to bring their experience and integrity to bear on their new assignments.
“We have seen in their CVs that they are men and women of integrity. We urge them therefore to key totally into the vision of His Excellency which is the industrializing Akwa Ibom and realization o the Akwa Ibom dream”, the speaker said.
At Tuesday's plenary, the House read for the first time the bill for a law to make for the administration of criminal justice and other related matters in the courts of the state sponsored by Hon (Barr) Aniefiok Denis of Etinan state constituency.
