Nsisong 'Roddy' Etukudo| The Sixth Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly is constituted of 26 'Street Credibility' compliant ladies and gentlemen. Making reference to Street Credibility, it is a quality that makes individual(s) to be accepted by ordinary young people who live in towns, cities and even villages because the individual(s) have the same fashions, styles, interests, culture, political ideologies or opinions.
The 'Streets' are the real essence of politics. Those that are 'Made of the Streets' are always very anxious to 'do something'. They are especially anxious to do something meaningful - at least to them. They are politically minded people who when they find a cause worthy of their time, energy and means - are willing to let go of inhibitions, fears and preconceptions and pump into their cause with an unusual passion.
According to my friend, Idorenyin Umana(July 2016)," 'Streets' are those human beings who do not work anywhere but are being fed by the proceeds from the government house either by commission or omission".
Though on recess, the Members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly still engages themselves in carrying out their oversight functions and representations. After a hectic/engaging week, the Honorable Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Onofiok Luke, in collaboration with some Honorable Members hosted a cross section of the 'Streets' in a round table parley. It was not a preplanned 'convention', but it was very necessary and timely.
As it is the wont, every individual relinquished their paraphernalia of office and assumed the status - 'MEMBERS OF THE STREETS CONSTITUENCY' - ably presided over by Barr. Onofiok Luke. It is pertinent to note that the Streets Constituency is the largest and most populated Constituency. An enabling environment is created for an uninterrupted têtê-a-têtê.
In the assuring words of Barr. Onofiok Luke, thus - "in as much as the economy is tight at the moment, it does not mean it will continue like this forever. I urge all of you to keep calm and continue to support the government of His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel with the consciousness that there is a better and prosperous tomorrow".
On behalf of those that are 'Made of the Streets', I appreciate those Honorable Members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly who wined, dined and co-hosted the 'streets' with a sumptuous treat. - Many thanks, Speaker Onofiok Luke; Thumbs up, Otuekong Nse Essien - Deputy Chief Whip(Onna); To my boss who extended the invitation, Rt. Hon. Mark Esset(Nsit Atai) - you are a good man; Rt. Hon. Uduak Odudoh(Ikot Abasi/Eastern Obolo), a man filled with profound humility - the streets herald your humility; Hon. Otobong Akpan(Ukanafun), you are appreciated; Hon. Monday Eyo Okon(Uyo), cheers Sir; Hon. Asuquo Archibong(Urue Offong/Oruko), take a bow Sir......truly, you all LANDED properly.
I most specially commend the 'Made of the Streets' for the decorum throughout the convention and beyond. Indeed, anticipate a massive repeat performance soonest. 'ALL HAIL THE STREETS'!
