The wife of Akwa Ibom Governor Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel has called for a synergy between wives of public officials at the third tier of government, saying this will help in the speedy development of the grassroots.
She made the call when she played host to the wives of Transition Chairmen in the state led by their President, Mrs. Bright Archibong, during a courtesy visit on her.
The state First Lady charged the women against abusing their roles as partners in progress at the grassroots; urging that they should complement their husbands’ efforts in the delivery of quality services in their domains.
Mrs. Emmanuel, who pointed out that the Local government remains the closest to the people, advised the women to liaise with other female stakeholders in their areas in order to deliver quality services to women and youths.
“As wives of transition Chairmen, you are First Ladies in your respective LGAs. Your husbands’ occupy very sensitive and demanding office and as such, you also have a role to play in ensuring that they succeed. If they succeed, you succeed. Liaise with with your stakeholders to offer good leadership in your respective domains”. She stressed.
She noted that despite the paucity of funds in the country, it is necessary for them to come up with programmes that will have impact on the people positively, saying that true leaders emerge during hard times.
While informing them of the Governor’s plan to inject economic lifeline in the local government system to enable the third tier of government break even in it programmes, she also expressed her readiness to work with them to touch more lives at the grassroots.
Also speaking, the Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social welfare, Dr. Glory Edet in her advice to the women, charged them to be of good conduct and also bridge the gap of development in their constituencies. She also stressed the need for their loyalty to the governor and wife , adding that the Governor is the leader of all in the state.
Earlier, in her remarks, the leader of the group, Mrs. Bright Archibong appreciated the governor’s wife for granting the group audience despite her tight schedule describing her as God’s gift to the women and the entire people of Akwa Ibom state. She said they were on the visit to show solidarity and loyalty to the governor’s wife whom she said is the leader of the group.
Mrs. Archibong thanked Mrs. Emmanuel for the giants’ strides recorded by her pet project in giving succor to the needy, promising that as a group, they will key into the vision of FEYReP to touch lives in their respective areas.
She pointed out that FEYReP within few months has shifted the paradigm by reducing incidence of crime among youths, teenage pregnancies, and as well increased empowerment for women, youths and the physically challenged in the state.
