I may not know what your Pastor told you about giving and charity but trust me, these are the reasons people GIVE:
1 SELF ESTEEM: Some people give for self esteem, to satisfy a psychological need. This means that people may give because they want to boost their self-image or ego.
2. RECOGNITION : people give because they need recognition from others. To satisfy a sociological need. This means that individuals may give to win recognition from others or the need to belong based on class or social status.
3. FEAR/INSECURITY/GUILT: People may give to others out of guilt over deed of the past-treading on others while climbing up the ladder etc. Some give as subtle bribe to avoid blackmail or backbiting.
4. HABITUAL GIVERS: These ones give because it has become a normal thing. This practice is mostly done by small donors. They just give.
5. NUISANCE GIVERS: Many people give to get rid of the seemingly noisy or inconveniences from callers and those soliciting help from them.
6. GIVING UNDER PRESSURE: Some persons give only when they are required or compelled to.
7. PEOPLE TO PEOPLE GIVERS: These individuals give because of a sense of
solidarity. It could be because of friendship or so.
8. FAITH GIVERS: Some persons only give based on the requirements of ones faith-giving for moral or religious reasons. For them, real blessings come when you give to God directly through his servants.
9. THE CAPTIVE GIVERS: Some people give because of a real sense of sorrow-
emotionally and sympathetically involved.
So, Why do you give?
