The plan to use the hurriedly re-convened G22 to endorse Obong Nsima Ekere as Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC )suffered a setback as former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice,Akwa Ibom State,Barr.Ekpenyong Ntekim successfully dissuaded the group from that line of action.
According to reports, there was a proposal for the group to endorse their Chairman, Obong Nsima Ekere for the plum job and members seemed eager to do so before the former Attorney General explained why it was unwise, unnecessary and impracticable for members to travel that route.
Our source revealed that Barr.Ntekim reminded his colleagues that members of G22 were now scattered across the All Progressives Congress (APC),the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and Labour Party(LP).He posited that since the appointment into the Board of NDDC was an APC affair, it didn't make political sense for members of the group who belong to other political parties to endorse same.
At that point, the main reason for convening the Abuja meeting was defeated as other members reasoned with him.
Barr.Ntekim's courageous and principled stand deserves the commendation of well meaning patriots. By this singular act, this senior lawyer and his colleagues have proved to Akwa Ibomites and Nigerians that they are not desperate political merchants who are willing to do anything and everything once money is involved or patronage is expected.
Congratulations Barr.Ntekim!
Congratulations G8!!
Congratulations G22 !!!
