The Honorable Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Onofiok Akpan Luke has harped on the readiness of the Sixth Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly to be people oriented and maintain its moniker - THE PEOPLES' ASSEMBLY.
Speaker Luke made the assertion on Tuesday, 2nd August, 2016 when the UYO LEADERS COUNCIL called on the Speaker in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly premises.
The group which is made up of the Four Clans of Uyo - Offot, Ikono, Oku and Etoi paid a courtesy visit on the Speaker and his colleagues to discuss issues concerning the Local Government Area and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the area.
Speaker Onofiok Luke assured them thus, "we (Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly) want to be people oriented, share ideas that will benefit our people and know their plight as well. This is why we keep granting audience to group of persons on a courtesy visit even when we are currently on recess".
He thanked the Uyo Peoples Council for the support so far bestowed on the government of His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and the cooperation given to the Honorable Member representing Uyo State Constituency, Hon. Monday Eyo Okon.
Barr. Luke went further to commend the group for creating a peaceful environment in hosting the Seat of Government and being hospitable and accommodating to all the government functionaries residing in Uyo.
He also promised to do everything withing his jurisdiction to ensure that the dump site at Wellington Bassey Way is relocated to a more appropriate environment.
