… as AKHA set to confirm Francis Okon as Auditor General of LG

A bill seeking to amend the traditional rulers law of the Akwa Ibom State 2000 has passed through first and second reading at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
The bill which is an executive bill was forwarded to the house by the Executive Governor of the State Mr.Udom Emmanuel last Thursday and has as its title ’’ Traditional Rulers Amendment bill 2016’’.
The bill seeks to repeal the existing traditional ruler’s law of 2000, will among others, extend the duration of the chairmanship position of the State council of Chiefs from one year to 2 years.
All the members who spoke during deliberations on the bill supported the amendment , noting that the bill was long over due and called for public hearing to enable members of the traditional institutions to make input before passage.
The Speaker, Barr. Onofiok luke while referring the bill to the house committee on local government and Chieftaincy Affairs for in – death study said ‘’The bill was among other bill seeking amendment to the one year tenure and urged the committee to report back to the house at next plenary.
In another development, the State House of Assembly also received a letter of ratification/ confirmation of Mr. Francis Udofa Okon as the Akwa Ibom State Auditor General for local government.
The clerk of the house, Mrs Mandu Umoren read the letter of the Governor to the house .Sir udo kiran Akpan moved a motion for the letter of the Governor to be received by the house and was seconded by the member representing Abak state constituency Elder Friday Iwok.
The Speaker of the State House , Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke committed the letter to the house committee on judiciary , justice and public petitions and for further legislative actions
