An Uyo High Court is battling to unravel the circumstances that could led to the gruesome murder of a young woman, Elizabeth Adejumo, in a hotel room in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Capital.
The case is entitled the "State versus Mrs Theresa Michael Udotung, a woman, whose hotel in Uyo (name withheld), her friend and creditor, Adejumo, was murdered in a suspicious manner. At the hearing on the matter on Wednesday, the pathologist, Dr. John Frank, from the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, who conducted the autopsy on the deceased, testified before the court.
He said the autopsy report showed that the late Adejumo might have been strangulated to death. According to the report, the deceased was found dead in a hotel, with the door of the room locked.
In the room, the deceased lied naked, with some drugs littered, perhaps to create an impression that she was raped. But, the autopsy report showed that vagina was not tempered with, but her face was squeezed back and front, which made her to suffocate and die.
The hotel management informed the police who broke open the door of the room. The deceased was a businesswoman who sold gold and other jewelleries, which the accused person is said to have bought in credit and did not pay.
When she went to her for the money, the accused person was said to have been invited Adejumo to the hotel, where her life was cut short. The case has been adjourned to next month.
