I'm glad to have discovered that this cucumber is being cultivated in Akwa Ibom, powered by AKEES. There's also tomatoes, which I discovered months back and wrote about on www.jabborro.com(search for the tomato story on the website). So many health vegetables and cash crops are being cultivated under the scheme, with an elaborate plan - already in execution - to take down the costs of growing these crops to commercial scale, so that many more Akwa Ibom sons can explore the business opportunities it affords.
This is, if we don't mention the multiple other businesses being started, and business ecosystems kicking off under the same programme.
But this is all just the effort of the State government to reignite life in a dead culture of self sufficiency; not just that, but to take it beyond self to a bullish GDP. What would our indigenes do to sustain the effort long after this administration is gone? How are we embracing the prospects today?
I'll be out with some report in coming days and we'll be amazed at what the reports say. Already you know that Akees is politics-free, as overseen by the Governor's SSA on Due Process/Technical Matters, Mr Ufot Ebong. I promise, you won't recall the word 'politics', when you read the coming reports.
Something in the shape of weekly millions of naira is about to pass us by if we remain naysayers.
Unfortunately, these information have been on the media for quite a while, but the average Akwa Ibomite hasn't taken things seriously, waiting to see pictures before believing.
Unknown to those who first learnt of what's going on in AKEES, there were a few citizens of means who took things seriously, and have since begun to invest heavily. You know what that means? These few may (just may) become monopolies, selling to the state, and selling for the state. Permit me to explain what I mean when the reports are ready.
But if Akwa Ibom will be wealthy, her poorest be among West Africa's wealthiest, then we must begin to take opportunities to work, learn, invest, such as Akees is presenting, seriously.
