National Association of Women Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Chapter today paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Science and Technology, Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Elizabeth Obot in her office. Proceedings began with an opening prayer by Mrs. Mfon Otuekong ( Head Science Promotions ). The Chairman, Uduak Ekong who spoke on behalf of the group expressed her gratitude to the Commissioner for obliging them the visit


The association according to her had been in existence for 26 years and had as its obligations fighting societal ills, accountability advocacy and celebration of excellence. She stated that the present executive of the group in the State decided to identify with important personalities in society, inform them of their existence and seek collaborations through courtesy visits. 

Their visit she stressed was to congratulate the Honorable Commissioner on her appointment, show solidarity and request for collaborative arrangements where necessary to help both parties achieve set objectives.

The Honorable Commissioner in her response heartily welcomed the female journalists to the Ministry and appreciated them for doing her the honor. Dr. Obot said as a female commissioner, her aim was to make a difference in service to justify the confidence in the female folk by the State Executive Council.

The Ministry she maintained was positioned and capable to run with the vision of his Excellency the Governor. She stressed that time had come for Science and Technology to drive the economy and bring
in the expected internally generated revenue.

She enumerated the achievements of the Ministry under her leadership to include but not limited to Approval of The Ministry's ICT center by JAMB, Acquisition of additional two access codes for the Ibom E-Library, Approval and activation of the E-Testing Center by Pearson VUE. etc. Concerning the Ibom Science Park, she urged the citizenry to be patient with his Excellency the Governor as he was committed to completing the project within the lifespan of his administration. Dr. Obot assured that the Ministry was committed to achieving more. 

She decried the campaign of calumny and blackmail in recent times against her and urged the group to be objective in their reportage, seek, confirm, propagate and defend the truth at all times in line with the dakkada philosophy. She promised to support and collaborate with the group in any way within her means.

The visit was brought to a beautiful end with a closing prayer by Esther Effiong, secretary of the group. In attendance at the visit were Directors in the Ministry which included Mr. Gerald Inoh ( Director Science ), Engr. Nicholas Idungafa ( Director Engineering ), Elder Okon Ntoketi ( Deputy Director Science and Head Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency ), Mr. Mfon Uweh ( Director Administration ), Mrs. Mfon Otuekong ( Head Science Promotions), Mrs. Ndifreke Essien ( Head PRS ) and Mr. Uneh Peters ( Head Technology )
