The wife of Akwa Ibom
State Governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel has again stressed the need for
goodly Christian virtue amongst women in the state, saying as soldiers of
Christ, it was necessary they exemplify his nature. She made the call during
the monthly women prayer which held at the Banquet Hall grounds, Government
House, Uyo with the theme: “Lord, Smile on us.”
Mrs. Emmanuel while
speaking harped on the lesson as recorded in Matthew 27, stating that a true
Christian nature should be devoid of betrayal of fellow brethren, seeing that
Judas did not end well after he betrayed Jesus.
While charging the women to desist from acts such as betrayal, envy and
slandering, the governor’s wife urged the women to choose the right path, advising
that they be careful and wary of situations that will make them instruments of
their neighbors’ downfall.
The state first lady
also appreciated God for the gift of life and as well thanked everyone for
turning out for the prayer event. She charged the women to always strive to please
God in their daily living, adding that the monthly prayer is not a routine, but
a call for unity, and a veritable platform for thanksgiving to God.
In a brief but
impactful exhortation, Pst. (Mrs.)
Utibe-eno John Udoh drawing her text from
the book of Psalms 44:3b, expounded on the need for women to transcend from the
level of being mere church goers to being committed and vibrant ambassadors of
Christ. She stated that when a person or a state pleases God, God will in-turn
cause his grace, favor and rest to shine down on them.
She admonished the
women to be obedient to God’s word as this will cause God to smile upon them
and the state at large. Pst. Udoh pleaded
with the women to remain God’s ambassadors with their lifestyles, saying in
spite of the situation they may find themselves, they should be resolute in
their faith.
The event which was
characterize with songs of worship, praise and thanksgiving to God almighty for
his continuous faithfulness upon the state, had in attendance the immediate past Deputy Governor of the
state, Lady Valerie Ebe, wife of Former Deputy Governor, Mrs. Atim Okpoyo, Honorable
Commissioner for Women Affairs/Social welfare, Dr. Glory Edet, and wife of the Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House
of Assembly, Dr.(Mrs.) Uduak Luke.
Others were the Deputy
Speaker Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Felicia Bassey, wife of the
Secretary to the State Government and Solicitor General, Barr. (Mrs.) Gloria
Umoren, and wife of the PDP State Chairman, Mrs. Vivian Ekpo.
Also present were wives
of Legislators (LEWA), wives of Commissioners and Special Advisers (COSAWA),
Female Transition Chairmen, wives of Transition Chairmen, Mbong Iban, Female
Permanent Secretaries, wives of Permanent secretaries and other dignitaries.
