INDECENT DRESSING : AKHA Silent Idonesit Ituen During Plenary (Pictured)

Mild drama ensued Tuesday at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly during plenary as the member representing Itu State Constituency, Mr. Idonesit Ituen was barred from making contributions during plenary which last about two hours.
The action was sequel to an order raised by the Chairman House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges, Elder Aniekan Uko which found Ituen culpable of violating a standing order of the House.
Uko who came under Order 4, rule 4 sub 8 of the standing order of the House which prescribes acceptable dress code for the legislators, asked the Speaker, Barr. Onofiok Luke to prevent Idonesit Ituen from taking part in the discussion of the house because Ituen’s dressing was in violation of the standing order of the house.
Uko, member representing Ibesikpo Asutan State Constituency argued that based the prescription of the Standing Order of the House, Ituen’s dressing was indecent.
He appealed for strict adherence to the House Standing Order by his colleagues particularly in the way members dressed to plenary so that they would not set bad example for Students of the Youth Parliament who often come around to understudy the State legislature.
Reacting, the Speaker of the House Barr. Onofiok Luke sustained the prayers of Elder Aniekan Uko, and ordered the member representing Itu state constituency, Mr. Idonesit Ituen to remain silent throughout the plenary.
Luke said there was need to review the standing order of the House to explicitly streamline approved conducts expected of members during plenary.
Idonesit Ituen wore a turquoise blue pair of trousers with box strip shirt and black tie, but had the sleeves of his shirt folded to his elbow.
It would be recalled that Idonesit Ituen barely a week ago directed security operatives in the House of Assembly to order some female journalists out of the Press gallery in the chamber for what he called “indecent dressing”.
