EMPOWERMENT : 8,000 Women Empowered in the State Government/CBN micro and small enterprise loan scheme




8,000 women empowered No fewer than 8,000 Akwa Ibom women have benefited from the first Phase of the State Government / CBN micro and small enterprise loan scheme. Akwa Ibom governor’s wife, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel disclosed this during the women monthly prayer meeting which had as its theme “Lets Relate”. 

The governor’s wife said the scheme which is aimed at empowering the women to be self-reliant will be done in batches to accommodate the women. She advised the first beneficiaries of the loan scheme to invest the money prudently. While reflecting on the theme of the prayer meeting, Mrs. Emmanuel said the need for love can never be overemphasis in any given society saying, "it is the strongest force that can bind people together irrespective of tribe, ethnic group and religion." She said where there is love, there is bound to be peace, unity and progress. 
She called on the women to show love to one another irrespective of their position in life, adding that God is love. 

Mrs. Emmanuel also appreciated the 150 widows that recently embarked on pilgrimage to the holy land to intercede for the state, noting that their prayers have been answered. In her homily, Arch Bishop Emilia Samuel reading from the book 1st John 4:7 said good relationship enhances better living. She noted that where there is love, relationship will always triumph, calling on the women to use their position to show love to one another. She admonished the women to be obedient to God’s word as this will cause God to smile upon them and the state at large. 

Special prayers were offered for the peace of the country, the state, the Governor and family, and members of the state executive council. The event which was characterize with songs of worship, praise and thanksgiving to God almighty for his continuous faithfulness upon the state, had in attendance wife of the Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Dr. (Mrs.) Uduak Luke, Deputy Speaker Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Felicia Bassey, Head of Civil Service, Mrs. Ekerobong Akpan, wife of the Secretary to the State Government and Solicitor General, Barr. (Mrs.) Gloria Umoren, and wife of the PDP State Chairman, Mrs. Vivian Ekpo. Others were wife of former Governor of the erstwhile Cross River state, Mrs. Nne Isong, wife of former deputy governor of Akwa Ibom state, Mrs. Atim Okpoyo, the PDP woman leader Mrs. Glory Effiong, and wife of the vice chancellor University of Uyo, Mrs. Rosalyn Essien. 

Also present were wives of Legislators (LEWA), wives of Commissioners and Special Advisers (COSAWA), Female Transition Chairmen, wives of Transition Chairmen, Mbong Iban, Female Permanent Secretaries, wives of Permanent secretaries and amongst others..
