Dwindling Economy: ‘Wage budget for workers alone can terrify…’- Gov. Udom

The Akwa Ibom State governor Mr Udom Emmanuel says it is his expertise and ingenuity as a financial expert that has made Akwa Ibom to witness more development despite the economic crises in the country.

Mr Udom Emmanuel in a quarterly media briefing in Uyo said, there could not have been a better time for him to lead the state, than now when the benefits of his hindsight and experience are required to make the state survive in the face of the dwindling revenue from the federal allocation.
Governor Emmanuel said that he was satisfied that he never went for a federal government bailout, despite the temptations at the time he resumed office, explaining that he would have mortgaged the state’s future.
“If we had gone for bail-out, perhaps, we wouldn’t be able to pay salaries today…!”
The governor who insisted that he does not get perturbed by blackmails, especially on the social media, maintained that, “if you are on a mission and you get distracted, you have lost focus… I’m here on a mission”
No matter the dwindling economy, FREE EDUCATION must continue in Akwa Ibom. We MUST continue to provide basic medical care!
He said that “it takes ingenuity to manage the finances of this state at a time we’re receiving far less than it used to be”.
Governor Emmanuel said, “wage budget for workers alone can terrify a man who isn’t prepared for such financial situation. It takes financial ingenuity to sustain the system.”
On the recent attacks over the N15bn facility approved by the state house of Assembly, the governor said the critics do so from a standpoint of ignorance.
He explained that the facility was important for the completion of some ongoing projects in the state at an interest rate of 14% , at a time the average interest rate in the country is above 20-25%.
He maintained that God foresaw these times and prepared him ahead, even as he added that the basic programmes such as free education, free health care services to the children, aged and pregnant women as well as examination fees to Senior secondary 3 students, will be sustained by his government.
He said the PDP in Akwa Ibom is unshaken especially as it is meeting the expectation of the people, adding that, “P.D.P is like a religion in Akwa Ibom and any aspiring Local Government Chairman should see himself as a Chief Executive Officer to deliver POWER TO The people
