Lawmaker calls on Nigerians to unite on fixing economy

The member representing Esit Eket/Ibeno state constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh has called on Nigerians across different political persuasions to unite on thinking out solutions to the present economic crisis facing the country. Akpanusoh made the call at the sixth annual synod of Methodist Church of Nigeria, MCN, Southern Iman circuit, held in Etinan.

"Nigerians should not fix the blame but should rather see how we can collectively support the federal and state government to fix the problems", he said. He reasoned that the level of insecurity in the North East, and other parts of the country wouldn't have escalated in the proportion witnessed in recent times, if government at the different levels had delivered on campaign promises.

Applauding the role of the Church in nation building, the lawmaker noted that God uses the prayer of the Church to intervene in the affairs of the country. He urged Christians not to relent in praying for the country and leaders at all levels of governance. Affirming that alms giving and other forms of sacrificial giving, including tithing were embodiments of the Christian faith, he charged Christians to give sacrificially towards the maintenance of their local Churches. "We must begin to practice sacrificial giving in our local Churches, if we must bear prosperous fruits in 2016", the lawmaker admonished, " Secondly, we must keep God's commandments on tithes, alms giving and offerings because that determines how steadfast you can communicate with God".

He lamented the sorry state of local Churches, and appealed to members to revive their giving attitude towards the wellbeing of the Church. In his message, titled: 'chosen to bear fruits', Elder John Abia tasked delegates to rise and overcome challenges that were confronting the Christendom. He reminded them that they were called to bear spiritual and financial fruits necessary for the growth of the Church. The sixth annual synod meeting was presided by the Bishop of Eket Diocese, Rt. Rev. Edem Offiong.
