Wife of the Akwa Ibom state governor and initiator of Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Programe (FEYReP) Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel says the administration of Mr. Udom Emmanuel as governor is committed to initiating health programmes that will
better the generality of Akwa Ibom people.
Speaking during the flag-off of the free surgical care organized by her pet-project in collaboration with Pro-Health International and Akwa Ibom state Association of Nigeria (AKISAN, USA incorporated), at the Ikot Ekpene General hospital, Mrs. Emmanuel said government was not unmindful of the health needs of its people, noting that the goal of building a healthy and energetic population remains the hallmark of this administration.
The Governor’s wife stressed that the need for a healthy society can never be overemphasized saying “Our expectations in this regards, could only be realized through laudable health programmes where a sizable percentage of the productive labour represent an immense reservoir of social, political and economic energy could be reached.”
While applauding Pro-Health International and Akwa Ibom indigenes in the diaspora for the partnership and the services rendered, Mrs. Emmanuel said government on its part will not rest until the life of every Akwa Ibomite is touched positively.
In her welcome remarks, the coordinator of FEYReP, Mrs. Ime Inyang described the exercise as a soothing balm to the vulnerable in the society saying “Having recognized the benefit of good health as an important component to maximizing one’s potential, It is our belief that when we invest our time, energy and resources in the lives of people in our communities, we would have invested in our collective future as a people.” She remarked.
Mrs. Inyang said FEYReP activities over the past months have consistently focused on supporting the poorest of the poor through multi-faceted social and economic sickness pointing out these programs cut across the entire spectrum of society regardless of gender and age. She thanked the governor’s wife for the laudable vision of empowering Akwa Ibom people healthwise and her selfless support for the less privileged saying it has given renewed hope to the people.
Highlighting the objectives of the exercise, the Executive Director of Pro-Health International Dr. Ikoh Ibanga said the partnership with FEYReP became necessary so as to enable them give back to the society. He noted that over 80 percent of beneficiaries are indigenes of the area, adding that simultaneously, the free surgical exercise is on-going in the three senatorial districts of the state.
In their separate goodwill messages, Hon. Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Elizabeth Obot; President Akwa Ibom state Association of Nigeria (AKISAN USA) Mr. John Etim, and the Transition chairman of Ikot Ekpene local government area, Mr. Uyime Etim all thanked the Governor’s wife for her motherly love for Akwa Ibom children, stressing that FEYReP within just few months have added value to lives positively across the state.
The free surgical care exercise is on gynecology, dentition and general surgeries.
