APC CANDIDATES FAIL IN AKWA IBOM HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY RERUN

…AS INEC COMMISSIONER COMMENDS PEACEFUL ELECTION
It was a woeful day for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Rerun Election as their four candidates lost elections in their polling units in the early results of the election monitored by reporters.
A chieftain of the party, Arc, Otu Ita Toyo blamed the defeat of the APC on the poor show of support from the state leadership of APC, and advocated the restricting of the party in the state.
Earlier, the APC Candidate in Oron/Udunguko, Mr. Victor Ini Okon had announced his withdrawal from the race and congratulated the eventual winner Mr. Effiong Okon Bassey.
Apart from one campaign in Ibesikpo Asutan led by Mr. Umana Umana, the APC has shown considerable apathy in the elections, creating an impression that they were hoping for a miracle to win.
At Edem Ekpat in Etinan, the APC candidate Unyime Ekwerre was seen all alone without any supporter and he eventually lost at his unit.
Addressing some journalists in Nung Udoe, Ibesikpo Asutan local government, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Gabriel Ada George commended the peaceful conduct of the elections.
Mr George said there were few instances of skirmishes but insisted that the security agents where fully on ground to maintain peace and orderliness.
