The Nigeria Police Force has arraigned a member of AkwaCross branch of NUPENG, Eleme, Port Harcourt Refinery and Petrochemical Ltd. Pastor Bassey Edem Akpan before an Uyo Chief Magistrate Court for his alleged involvement in N155million fraud.
According to Police Prosecutor, Inspector Itohowo Micheal, Pastor Akpan aka, "man of God", who hails from Ikot Essien Ibesikpo, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, is a staff of Port Harcourt Refinery was arrested by the police for allegedly conniving with one Ubon Udoette which at the moment is at large, under false pretence or deliberately to defraud one Edet Effiong Akpan, the Managing Director of EDIMOVEAN Nig. Ltd, Uyo of N155m of supplying eleven thousand litters of kerosene at N105. 00 per a litter.
Akpan was arraigned on three counts bordering on fraud before a presiding magistrate, Mrs. Rebecca Akpan.
The charges read in part, “That you, Bassey Edem Akpan on 10th day of June 2014 with ECOBank PLC account number: 5221002986, obtained money under the false pretences and stealing, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 439 of the Criminal Law of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria."
Akpan, however, pleaded not guilty to the counts charges. Magistrate Rebecca Akpan, the presiding magistrate, admitted him to bail with the sum of N500, 000.00 with a surety in like sum.
The magistrate added that the surety must provide evidence of three years tax payments and presents his residential address to the court for verification.
Mrs. Akpan directed that "Man of God" should be remanded in Prison pending when he would be able to perfect
his bail conditions.
The case was adjourned till February 29 2016, for mention.
Meanwhile, his accomplice, Ubon, of No. 26 Obot Street, an indigene of Ikot Abasi Itam, Itu LGA is wanted by the police in connection with the fraud.
