The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Finance Mr Akan Okon says that a only a certain level of madness can lead an individual into insinuating that the State Government offered bribe to the Supreme Court judges to emerge victorious in the February 3, 2016 governorship appeal judgement.
Speaking with our reporter in Uyo, Mr Akan Okon said that those who are making such spurious allegations need to be properly examined since they have failed to realize that the Justices of the supreme court are distinguished men of honour who as custodians of the laws of the country, cannot be swayed by any form of inducement, rather they are guided by the fundamental principles of the law and judicial precedents.
Mr Okon who frowned at the mindless allegation that he towed some trucks containing N70bn to the supreme court premises offering N10bn each to the seven Justices at the court
Does the person know how much N70bn means? How much is the monthly allocation to the state?
He said that “our people are used to propagating falsehood, maintaining that this is not the only state that judgement was given at the Supreme Court, have you heard such vain comment from Abia State that judgement was given on the same day as our own?”
He said such smear campaigns are borne out of the inherent wickedness of the opposition in the state, but expressed happiness with Governor Emmanuel for throwing open his door in readiness to working with anybody who is willing to contribute to the development of the State.
“Akwa Ibom people are very wise now and they are not falling to all those cheap propaganda. There is a level which propaganda can take you to,” he quipped.
Mr Okon advised the opposition to desist from a stock in trade that could not fetch them anything, and rather channel their energy to analyzing issues in the global and national economy in in order to make inputs to those in governance, and also help the people to plan for themselves.
