Members of Insight Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, have congratulated Mr. Kufre Okon on his recent appointment as chief press secretary to the Speaker of the state’s house of assembly, Barr. Onofiok Luke.
In a statement jointly signed by the chapel’s Chairman, David Augustine and Secretary, Emmanuel Silas, the journalists described Okon as a complete professional and progressive journalist who combines with his charm an unlimited energy and the highest integrity.
The journalists expressed confidence that under the Okon press secretaryship the Speaker and the assembly’s image will soar in their overall commitment to deliver quality legislations for the state, and smooth partnership with the executive.
According to the statement, the journalists are not surprised by Mr. Okon’s overwhelming acceptance by the leadership and members of the state council of the NUJ given his service antecedents as a fine newspaper editor and an assistant on media to Barr Onofiok Luke since he became a member of the House in 2011.
While assuring the new chief press secretary of the unalloyed support of Insight Chapel, the journalists commended the Speaker for appointing Okon, and prayed God to imbue him with the spirit of hard work and humility which, according to them, are his outstanding qualities for future tasks.
In related development, a correspondent the assembly press corps, Mr. Itoro Bassey said, “To many of us in the industry, Kufre is an ideal; the examples he has set in the times we have worked together will long continue to influence and inspire us”.
Bassey told propeller.com that the Speaker’s chief press secretary is one who has value for his relationship with journalists.
“We found him at all times a man of understanding, learning and integrity”, he said.
Bassey further urged Mr. Okon to be focused in his duties and not to be deterred by reports disseminated by “unscrupulous and anonymous writers who thrive in blackmail, unnecessary and nonsensical vituperation against innocent public officers”.
A graduate of mass communication from the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, Kufre Okon holds a bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts from the University of Uyo. He is also a distinguished alumnus of the Pan Atlantic University, Lagos.
