WE CANNOT SUPPORT APC IN UYO LOCAL GOVERNMENT - Clan of Offot Ukwa


The Clan Head of Offot Ukwa in Uyo Local Government Area, Etebom Sylvanus Okon has assured Governor Udom Emmanuel of his support and that of his subjects.
Etebom Okon gave the assurance in Uyo yesterday at the Traditional Rulers Council Hall, Wellington Bassey, Uyo when the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Rt. Hon Victor Antai visited the council as part of Dakkada sensitisation tour of local government councils in the state.
Speaking on behalf of his people, the Clan Head stressed that “Uyo local government is always in support of government and will continue to support Mr. Udom Emmanuel throughout his tenure as the Governor; Uyo is not an opposition local government and will not be at this time, we will stand by the Governor no matter the situation”.
He however decried a situation where the government will neglect them after elections, “Government always neglect us by not giving us good roads, electricity and other infrastructure in return for the supports we gave during the election”.
Also speaking, the Paramount Ruler of Uyo Local Government Area, HRH Edidem Surv. Silas Akpan thanked the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Rt. Hon Victor Antai for bringing the Dakkada message to Uyo and promise that his people will do everything possible to support the Governor in his determination to industrialise the state.
In his remarks, the Commissioner, urged the people to rally round the Governor in order for to fulfil his campaign promises of turning Akwa Ibom State from civil service state to an industrialise state. 
In his words; “Mr. Udom Emmanuel is so passionate about the development of this state, which is why he has performed groundbreaking ceremonies for various projects. He is also building the second runway at the Ibom International Airport that enable cargo plane to land; he has open more roads to link up every local government areas in the state”.
Hon Antai noted that Akwa Ibom is the only state in the federation that has been given licence to generate 685mw of electricity, stressing that it has help solving the power problem that the state was facing in the past. 
Continuing, he said the Governor has map out plan to introduce mechanise farming in every local government areas, which will help in producing enough food for the state and reduce importation of food items such as garri.
Earlier in her address, the Transition Chairman, Dr Mrs. Grace Ekpo, represented by the Secretary Elder Imo Okon, thanked the Governor for the numerous groundbreaking and commissioning of projects within a few months in office. 
She highlighted some of the challenges facing the council to include; lack of basic amenities such as motorable roads, health facilities, potable water and educational facilities, and requested that the state government should include Uyo in its industrialisation policy
Present during the visit include; the Paramount Ruler of Uyo, HRH Edidem Surv. Silas Akpan, Clan Head of Etoi, Clan Head of Uko, Clan Head of Offot Ukwa, Village Heads, Transition Committee members, Youths, Women and political stakeholders of Uyo.
