Nothing disturbs the All Progressive Congress in Akwa Ibom State like the name Udom Emmanuel. I mean nothing frightens the APC like the excellent resolve, impressive composure, dazzling confidence, exemplary performance and the overwhelming acceptance of the Akwa Ibom state Governor in his first seven months in power. In the face of laughable blame games and comical excuses from the APC led federal government at the centre, Governor Udom Emmanuel has proven his critics wrong that leadership is about creativity and making the difference even in the face of harsh economic realities. The APC has not hidden its satanic intention to capture Akwa Ibom State because of her enviable status as an oil producing state and even her national chairman could dare to say that they will do all it takes to capture Akwa Ibom State.
The people of Akwa Ibom state are satisfied with the genuine efforts of their time conscious, businesslike and hardworking governor who works his socks to ensure that he sustains superior performance while the people of the state rise to the strength of their abilities, even beyond what others can see.
From the blast of the whistle on May 29, 2015 , the APC has launched and sustained a destructive campaign of calumny and mischief deliberately oiled to pull down the government of Mr Udom Emmanuel. They have shown absolutely no regard for the office of the governor, bending over backwards to address a proven and successful technocrat with all sort of unprintable names.
Unperturbed, Governor Udom Emmanuel has demonstrated his focused to leave indelible positive imprints in the lives of Akwa Ibom people. He has not reneged on his campaign promises. He has remained stoically committed to industrialization and infrastructural development. Governor Emmanuel has tapped into the wealth of his contacts and has resulted in the several ground breakings for new industries. Quite interestingly, he has also resuscitated ailing and moribund industries. From LED factory to automobile, and fertilizer plant to others, industrialization is on its wings in the State. Peacock Paints has come alive again.
The APC as usual makes a meal out the Governor's honest efforts at industrializing the state forgetting that industrialization is a process and not an event. They claim nothing is on ground. Let's take the Automobile company for instance, after the ground breaking, several paper works had to be carefully sorted out, including clearance from relevant professional bodies and agencies. Heavy duties machines and equipment are expected in few days as it had to be imported and everyone knows that importation of these size and magnitude of equipment is not as easy as taking a flight from London to Lagos. Same can be said for the other firms that are coming in but the APC will see nothing good in all these. All they do is storm radio stations and newspapers with lies and demonic propaganda.
The Udom Emmanuel government is providing clean water in his modest efforts to stem the spread of
water borne diseases. He is revamping all sectors including health. St Luke’s Hospital, Anua, and Ibom Specialist Hospital are examples. He is undertaking several road construction projects across the state. This state is now a giant work site, and the people are proud
of him.
The technical committees inaugurated by the governor are attracting high investments to the State. They have helped evolve a second planting season. Udom Emmanuel is developing coconut
plantations and hopes to process coconut into over 360 uses scientifically. A coconut refinery is underway. The actual commencement of the Ibom Deep Seaport is gathering momentum. These are inspiring statistics after a few months in charge.
Despite the significant drop in the revenue accruing to the state, Governor Udom Emmanuel is embarking on several road construction projects. Is the APC not aware that the 3.5 km Ikot Udom road with a 15m span bridge in Ibiono Ibom local government Area is on course? The contractors are making good progress with site clearance and excavation works at 75%, while pilling and construction of bridges are ongoing. That was as at last month when I visited that site. Major progress has also been made with the emergency works on roads in Oron. The contractor is set to deliver the project within the specified time frame. The same can be said of the ongoing construction of the Nto Edino-Ekwere Azu Road with 2 bridges, measuring about 45 meters in Obot Akara.
The dualization of 23.4km Eket-Etinan Road with 3 bridges is on-going, while the construction of bridges on the road have commenced in earnest. Eket- Ibeno Road dualization, spanning 19.5 km with 4 bridges is at 53% state of completion, and the work is progressing. Udom Emmanuel is embarking on the construction/re-modeling of selected roads in Eket, which would include strategic roundabouts and junctions in Eket metropolis.
In Uyo, the construction of Uyo underground outfall drainage from Nsikak Edouk Avenue through Akwa Efak to the Tropicana is at advanced stage.
The dualization of Uyo-Etinan road with a flyover and water fountain at Etinan roundabout and the dualization of the 23.8km Uyo-Oron road Airport road-Okpedi-Oron road by East West Road with 60m span bridge in Odobo are set to commence.
Other road projects of his administration include the construction of 5km Ikot Usop – Ikot Edeghe – Ikot Ekpuk Road with 30m Span Bridge in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area and construction of 5km Mkpok-Okat road in ONNA Local Government Area. Not forgetting the Information Drive in Uyo. These will all be completed in record time, ofcourse depending on the strength of our resources.
Governor Emmanuel in just few months has achieved so much more, Over 50 foreign investors have indicated interest in coming to setup shops in Akwa Ibom State; Emergency Intervention on Gully Erosion at Enen Atai along Calabar – Itu Highway; Emergency Intervention on Gully Erosion at Independence Hall area in Abak. Resumption of work on Ikot Ekara-Ikot Ebritam Road; Electric Meter manufacturing Plant underway in Onna; Establishment of Sports Academies in the 10 Federal Constituencies; 1000 Youths for Oracle Certification Program; Power Sector training for youths; Special
Agricultural Training for 100 youths in Israel.
The APC makes unnecessary meal out of the issue of the last badge of civil servants who were recruited. The governor is conscious of the matter and working tirelessly to bring it to a happy end. He is committed to the welfare of workers. That explains why he authorized the immediate payment of ten years arrears of pensions and gratuities to local government employees. Others will be done in the shortest possible time and by then the APC would have nothing to say and move on a new mischief.
There is no superior argument put out by the APC why they desperately want to capture Akwa Ibom state. Their candidate is not from Eket Senatorial district, the part of the state that never occupied the seat of power before now. The APC wants to plunge Akwa Ibom state into a needless political tussle and crises in the future. Governor Udom Emmanuel is a product of a consensus predicated upon fairness, justice and equity. The overwhelming decision to shift the governorship slot to Eket Senatorial zone was for the sake of inculcating mutual co-existence among our people and essentially to give every man, woman and child of our dear state a clear sense of belonging. APC has no respect for equity and justice.
Sadly still, this APC candidate in Akwa Ibom state does not have a better record of prudence with public funds neither has he better ideas than the present governor. So what is the hullabaloo about? The entire plan is to mortgage Akwa Ibom state so that some political godfathers from the west and north can indiscriminately put their itchy fingers into our state treasury at will. It will not work. Akwa Ibom State is not a conquered territory, we are a federating unit with equal rights and privileges.
It is a sad commentary on our politics that people who were a part of the last administration for seven of its eight years would now turn around and demonize the administration. They claim that the administration was wasteful, irresponsible, corrupt etc. and this sounds like cutting your nose in order to spite your face. You cannot absolve them of hypocrisy without convicting them of self-indictment. Akwa Ibom people are happy with their Governor. Go away, APC with your lies, Go Away!
