The Akwa Ibom state government has vowed to ensure that the mandate of Governor Udom Emmanuel is restored at the Supreme Court.
The state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr Uwemedimo Nwoko told reporters shortly after the Appeal court nullified the April 11 governorship elections that the Court was not satisfactory as its judgement did not follow the facts arising from the governorship petitions.
He said that since the judges were human beings that were prone to mistakes, the state Governor will pursue the case to the supreme Court to ensure that justice is restored.
Barr Nwoko explained that Akwa Ibom state people were solidly behind the governor, and that even if the elections were repeated today, Governor Emmanuel will not lose any sleep at all.
“I have just interacted with His Excellency, and he is in high spirit, undaunted and ready to continue his impactful leadership in delivering democracy dividends to the people.”
Nwoko assured that Governor Emmanuel’s position is unshaken by the ruling and the people should continue to expect more from him, as the litigation ensues in court.
The Appeal Court on Friday, invalidated the result of elections in the 31 local government of the state as requested by the APC governorship candidate, and called for a rerun within 90 days.#AkwaIbom
