[ENVIRONMENT] AKSG Threatens Arrest on Residents who flouts sanitation law



The Akwa Ibon State Government has threatened to arrest people who do not keep their environment clean due to their refusal to take part in the monthly sanitation exercise.

The state commissioner for environment Dr. Iniobong Essien made this known while monitoring the November sanitation exercise in the state.

Dr. Essien explained that a special sanitation monitoring team will be going round residential and business areas to assess level of compliance and maintained that occupants of an unclean environment would be charged to sanitation court.

The commissioner who visited Akpan ANDEM and Itam markets said he was impressed with the level of participation in the exercise by the traders.

Correspondent, report that when the inspection team visited some communities in Obio Offot in Uyo and a motor park as well as a market at Nung Udoe the people of the area appealed to the govt to provide refuse dump in the area for effective waste disposal. 

The commissioner in a response said that the ministry was in partnership with some financial institutions in the state to provide the refuse dump and assured that refuse dump would be positioned in those areas.
