There are strong indications that strong sense of Ijaw nationalism and patriotism is the greatest factor in favor of the PDP in the guber polls.
Former militant leaders led by Tom Government Polo appealed to all sons and daughters of Ijaw to remain with PDP.
Also, it has been argued political pundits that the death and prosecution of Alamieyeseigha, which is believed to have been orchestrated by leaders of APC at the centre and the prosecution of Kuku and K have led to strong sentiments by the Ijaw people, who now see PDP as the safest place to be.
The failure of sylva as a former Governor is also a strong factor that has changed the tide in favor of the umbrella. Sylva was believed to have disrespectful, self- centered, and high handed while in office as Bayelsa State Governor. It was argued that he was into drugs consumption which misdirected his daily activities.
Furthermore, the conspiracy that led to defeat of Goodluck at the centre has made the election an Ijaw/ Hausa battle. It is also believed that the way and manner the Hausa/Fulani power elite maltreated Goodluck Jonathan has made the election an opportunity for the Ijaw to protect their own and retain power in their state. They believed too, that it would amount to disgracing GEJ should the APC win election in Bayelsa, the former president's home. The people have therefore decided to swing the tide in favor of the PDP.
Finally, the performance of dickson and above all, the unprecedented mobilization acumen of PDP have given the PDP a comfortable lead in the polls.
It is believed that while the APC in Bayelsa depended on Abuja for finances and other mobilization attendants, the PDP, being firmly established in the state properly harnessed their strength in the process and and has carried the day!
