WE ARE COMMITTED TO QUALITY HOUSING DELIVERY -Enobong Uwah


The Commissioner,  Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Housing and Urban Renewal, Hon Enobong Uwah says his Ministry  has been re-engineered for quick performance to meet up with the tasks of prompt and quality housing delivery.

Such repositioning is evidenced in the speed of the ongoing conversion of the 10th anniversary hospital to office complex to accommodate government ministries currently occupying rented and unbefitting buildings.

Conducting members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Housing round the project site on wednesday, in company of his Permanent Secretary, Dr Mrs Valerie Obot, Commissioner Uwah said with the progress of work so far, completion is most likely to beat date-line given to the Ministry by Governor Udom Emmanuel.

Prince Uwah stressed the resolve of the Udom administration to continue in the transformation process of Akwa Ibom.
He commended Governor Emmanuel for energizing the Ministry of Housing for effective performance of its huge responsibilities

Although given four months to convert  the over 15 years uncompleted hotel building to an office complex to accommodate at least 3 major ministries and 4 agencies and departments of government, Uwah said with  what has been accomplished just within two months, the work is left at the level of fixtures.

The mini high rise building, reconstructed to accommodate the ministries of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Works and others according to the Commissioner has 400 office spaces, three major conference halls and over 30 conveniences.

To prevent the work from the effect of the present economic realities, Uwah said the reconstruction work is targeted through direct labour, with sound financial engineering to enable government to prudently manage her resources and see to the completion of the work within stipulated time frame.

Affirming the professional  strength of the state Ministry of Housing and Urban Renewal to supervise and ensure quality and prompt delivery, the Commissioner said the Ministry is enriched with professionals who can be entrusted with any magnitude of Housing project.

Giving his impression of the work, the Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Housing and Member representing Ini State Constituency, Hon Emmanuel Ekpenyong said, as part of the oversight function of the legislature, it was necessary to go round ongoing government projects to ascertain progress of work as a way of contributing to development of the state.  Hon. Ekpenyong applauded Governor Emmanuel for undertaking to rehabilitate such a strategic and grand edifice which has been abandoned for decades and converting it to use to save the state the cost of renting accommodation for ministries.

He lauded the speed of work so far and pledged to continue to partner the Ministry to ensure timely and quality delivery of the project.
Giving a vote of thanks,the member representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency and Chairman House Committee on Information,Rt.Hon.Barr.Ime Okon thanked the commissioner for the level of work done and also commended the governor Mr.Udom Emmanuel for taking a bold step in making sure that a place which was turned to hide out for miscreants is rebranded for viable use.
The Ibiono Ibom born lawmaker also assured the commissioner of the support of the assembly in case of any challenge.
Other members of the committee who made the he trip were the member for Mbo, Hon.Samuel Ufuo, Uruan, Hon.Aniekan Bassey, Uyo, Hon. Monday Eyo,Ikot Abasi/Eastern Obolo, Rt.Hon Uduak Odudoh and other key officers of the committee including the Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Mr Mbosowo Asuquo .
The ongoing massive renovation going on at the site carried out by russian construction giant TUNALUM NIG.LTD.
