The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State has given marching orders to politicians who are sympathetic to the policies and programmes of the party to declare their membership for the party or seize to attend key programmes of the party.
The APC who made their position known in a release signed by the publicity secretary of the party, Mr Samuel Udobong frowned at the fair weather attitude of supporters of Obong Umana Umana, who neither belong to the PDP or APC but attend major activities of the APC.
“Inasmuch as the doors of our great party are always open to new entrants, we are however disturbed by the dangerous trend of these new political converts professing support for our party, our candidates, attending major meetings, congresses, press conferences and rallies of our party while still remaining card carrying members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). It is absurd.
While we appreciate them for seeing the APC as the ideal party for a democracy, their actions smack of lack of courage, inconsistency, indiscipline, disrespect and does not portray our party in very good light. This is a party we fought hard since the days of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to preserve when some of them were having fun and snuffing life out of our members.
Recent newspaper reports indicate that some of the PDP bigwigs who gate-crashed into the APC in the course of the last general elections are already planning to return to their vomit in the PDP. We are also in the know that the latter-day APC politicians were mainly supporters of Obong Umana Okon Umana”.
The APC further warned that their party is not a dumping ground for members of the PDP who are not willing to stay in their party, “We wish to state categorically that the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State is not a dumping ground for out-of-favour PDP politicians. The like of Chief Don Etiebiet, Chief Otu Ita Toyo, Obong Nsima Ekere, Obonganwan Imo Isemin, Obonganwan Rita Akpan, Hon Aniekan Akpan, Barr Effiong Abia, Barr Ekpeyong Ntekim, and others should be proud to fully identify with us so that we can separate the wheat from the chaff”.
